VICTORIAN CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION VOCATIONAL MAJOR (VCE VM)
The VCE Vocational Major is a 2-year vocational and applied learning program at Year 11 & Year 12 within the VCE. The program aims to equip students with the skills, knowledge, confidence and agency needed to prepare for the world of work and further education and training. This replaces the VCAL certificate.
The VCE Vocational Major will prepare students to transition successfully into apprenticeships, traineeships, further education and training, university, or directly into employment.
The VCE Vocational Major will support students to develop both academic and practical skills. It employs a more diverse range of assessment strategies rather than exams, alleviating some of the pressure that students face when considering the VCE.
Award Levels
VCE VM are issued at the following:
- Victorian Certificate of Education Vocational Major (VCE VM)
These qualification levels cater for a range of students with different abilities and interests. They also provide a progression in the development of skills, knowledge and attributes.
Structure
VCE VM program must be designed to meet the VCAA course requirements, ensuring that the curriculum selected is consistent with the purpose statement of the curriculum strand at the award level.
Each student should be enrolled in a program that includes curriculum from each of the following strands:
- Literacy and Numeracy Skills
- Industry Specific Skills
- Work Related Skills
- Personal Development Skills
VM units are designed to meet the purpose of the strand to which they contribute credit to. Each VM unit contains accredited learning outcomes that must be satisfactorily completed in order to meet the requirements of that unit.
Each VM unit is 100 nominal hours in length. The satisfactory completion of each unit contributes one credit towards the VM at the appropriate award level.
